Amazon reportedly plans to cut around 30,000 corporate jobs

Amazon is reportedly preparing to cut up to 30,000 corporate jobs, marking its most considerable workforce reduction since 2023. The layoffs are expected to impact multiple divisions, including HR, devices and services, and operations. The move follows internal messaging from CEO Andy Jassy indicating that increased use of AI agents will reduce the need for corporate roles.

Amazon reportedly plans to cut around 30,000 corporate jobs

Amazon may be preparing for its largest round of job reductions since 2023, according to a new report.

Reuters reported Monday that sources familiar with the situation said the company plans to eliminate up to 30,000 corporate roles, with layoffs expected to begin on Tuesday. The cuts will reportedly span multiple areas of the business, including human resources, devices and services, operations, and other divisions.

The last time Amazon implemented job cuts of this scale was between late 2022 and early 2023, when the company laid off approximately 27,000 employees.

In more recent years, Amazon has opted for smaller reductions across specific teams. Earlier this January, the company trimmed positions in its Communications and Sustainability departments.

The reported cuts also follow a CNBC report outlining a memo from CEO Andy Jassy. In that memo, Jassy suggested that as Amazon continues integrating more AI-driven agents into workflows, the company will require fewer corporate staff positions.

Amazon has not yet responded to requests for comment.
