Anthropic unveils Claude Design for fast visual creation
Anthropic launches Claude Design, a tool for creating quick visuals, expanding its AI capabilities into design, content creation, and productivity workflows.
Anthropic announced on Friday that it is launching Claude Design, a new experimental product designed to help users quickly create visuals such as prototypes, slide decks, one-pagers, and other design assets using its Claude AI system. The company said the tool is aimed at people like founders and product managers who may not have formal design experience but still need to communicate ideas clearly.
With Claude Design, users describe what they want to build, and Claude generates an initial visual version. From there, users can refine and adjust the output by making direct edits or submitting additional requests to improve the design.
For instance, a user might ask Claude to “prototype a serene mobile meditation app with calming typography, subtle nature-inspired colours, and a clean layout.” The system would then generate a visual draft that can be further customised by modifying colour schemes, adjusting type sizes, or adding features such as a dark mode toggle.
Although the new tool may appear to compete with established platforms like Canva, Anthropic clarified that Claude Design is intended to complement existing design tools rather than replace them. The company explained that its focus is on helping users move quickly from an idea to a visual concept, especially when they are not starting inside a traditional design environment.
Once a prototype or presentation is created, users can export their work in multiple formats, including PDFs, URLs, and PPTX files, or transfer the designs directly into Canva. After export, the content remains fully editable and collaborative within Canva’s ecosystem, according to Anthropic.
Claude Design also enables the company’s design system to be applied across projects. This ensures that all generated visuals remain consistent with a brand’s established style. Anthropic said the system achieves this by analysing a company’s codebase and design files. Teams can further refine these design components and even manage multiple design systems within the tool.
The product is powered by Claude Opus 4.7 and is currently available in research preview for subscribers using Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans.
The launch reflects Anthropic’s broader push into enterprise and prosumer markets, where competition around AI-powered workplace tools is intensifying. Earlier this year, the company introduced Claude Cowork, an agent-focused assistant designed to handle more complex workflows. It later expanded Cowork with agentic plug-ins that automate specialised tasks across different business functions.
The announcement also comes shortly after reports that venture capital firms have approached Anthropic with offers for a new funding round that could value the company at $800 billion or more — potentially putting it on par with or even ahead of OpenAI. However, according to those reports, Anthropic has not shown interest in pursuing the proposed funding at this stage.
