Snap is preparing to release the newest version of its AR glasses, Specs, later this year. But even as the company positions the hardware product as a major strategic priority, Snap has recently lost a senior executive closely tied to the effort—a departure reportedly linked to a disagreement with CEO Evan Spiegel.

The tech blog Sources first reported that Snap had recently lost Scott Myers, its SVP of Specs, following an alleged “blow-up” with Spiegel.

When asked for comment, a Snap spokesperson said Myers had “decided to step down from his role at Snap.” The statement thanked him for his work at the company and wished him “the best in his next chapter.” The spokesperson also pushed back on the “blow-up” framing, but declined to share further details about the circumstances surrounding Myers’ exit.

The spokesperson added, We can’t wait to bring Specs to the world later this year. We remain focused on disciplined execution and long-term value creation for our developer partners, community and shareholders.”

It remains unclear exactly when Myers left Snap, or what specifically happened in the reported dispute. After a user on X asked Sources author Alex Heath what the disagreement was about, Heath replied that it concerned “strategy,” but said he couldn’t provide additional details.

Snap has been hinting at a commercial release of Specs for some time, and in recent months the company has signalled that it is becoming more serious about bringing the product to market. In January, Snap spun off the SpeSpecorganisationto a separate subsidiary, Specs Inc., saying the move would enable “greater operational focus and alignment.”

Myers joined Snap in 2020 and previously held roles at SpaceX, Apple, and Nokia, according to his LinkedIn profile. In an interview with Tom’s Guide last summer, Myers described the Specs development effort as an “entirely new paradigm,” while also pointing to how difficult it can be to get the form factor right. “I don’t want to see people wearing a wire coming out of the back of their head,” he joked.
