Jack Dorsey Unveils Buzz, an AI-Powered Team Chat Platform to Rival Slack

Jack Dorsey has introduced a new workplace collaboration platform called Buzz, an open-source group chat application designed to bring employees and AI agents into the same workspace. Announced on Tuesday, the software is positioned as an alternative to tools such as Slack while also offering GitHub integration for development teams.

The application was unveiled by the Twitter and Block co-founder, who described Buzz as model-agnostic, decentralised, self-sovereign and open source. According to the project’s website, Block developed the platform, the financial technology company behind Square, Cash App, Afterpay and Tidal.

Buzz combines workplace messaging with AI agents

Buzz is designed to simplify collaboration for organisations that increasingly rely on AI agents to complete tasks. The platform brings messaging, AI-powered workflows and GitHub project management into a single interface, allowing team members and AI systems to participate in shared conversations.

Because the software is open source, organisations can customise their own Buzz deployments to match internal workflows. Developers also have access to the source code, making it possible to build and deploy additional features based on their specific requirements.

Competition grows for AI-native collaboration tools

Dorsey’s launch comes as other technology leaders explore AI-focused alternatives to traditional workplace messaging platforms. Paradigm Partner and Chief Technology Officer Georgios Konstantopoulos recently introduced Centaur, an open-source virtual employee platform that operates within Slack or through an API.

Konstantopoulos has argued that AI agents in enterprise environments should offer broader capabilities while allowing organisations to self-host deployments for greater security and operational control. His comments reflect growing interest in integrating AI assistants directly into workplace collaboration tools.

Buzz remains in its early development phase

Although Buzz offers features that may appeal to startups adopting AI-first workflows, the platform acknowledges that it is still in its early stages. Organisations considering migration from existing collaboration software may therefore choose to evaluate the platform before making broader deployments.

The Buzz desktop application is available free for macOS, Windows, and Linux. At the same time, theproject’ss source code has also been published on GitHub for developers and organisations interested in contributing or creating customised versions.
