Microsoft to shut down Outlook Lite app next month
Microsoft will discontinue its Outlook Lite app next month, marking a shift toward unified email services and updated mobile app experiences.
Microsoft has confirmed that it will shut down its Outlook Lite application on May 26. The announcement was made on Monday, marking the end of the lightweight email app that was originally introduced in 2022.
Outlook Lite was developed as a streamlined version of the standard Outlook app, specifically aimed at Android users with limited device storage and those in regions with slower internet connectivity. The app offered essential email features while using fewer system resources than the full version.
The decision to retire Outlook Lite had been signalled earlier. Microsoft had already announced last year that the app would be removed from the Google Play Store in October 2025. With the latest update, the company has now confirmed that the app will stop functioning entirely for existing users starting next month. Neowin first reported the development.
In guidance shared on its support page, Microsoft advised users to transition to its primary mobile email application. The company stated, “To continue enjoying a secure and feature-rich email experience, we recommend switching to Outlook Mobile.”
Users who move to the standard Outlook Mobile app will still be able to access their existing emails, calendar entries, and attachments by signing in with their accounts. Additionally, users will be directed to the Google Play Store to download the full Outlook application as part of the transition process.
