Spotify has expanded its push into the book market by officially rolling out a new feature in the U.S. and the U.K. that allows users to purchase physical books directly through its app. The move follows an earlier announcement in February, when the company first signalled its entry into physical book sales.

The feature is powered through a partnership with Bookshop.org, a marketplace known for supporting local and independent bookstores. Within audiobook pages on Spotify, users will now see an option labelled “Get a copy for your bookshelf.” Selecting this option redirects users to Bookshop.org’s website, where the platform handles pricing, stock availability, and shipping logistics.

At launch, the physical book purchasing option is available only on Android devices,  with support for iOS users expected next week.

With this rollout, Spotify is positioning itself as a broader destination for book lovers, moving beyond streaming into direct commerce. The company is entering competition with major booksellers as part of a broader effort to diversify its offerings and strengthen its path to profitability. As part of that strategy, Spotify has also recently increased subscription prices across the U.S. and Europe, while reporting 751 million monthly active users.

Alongside the new purchasing feature, Spotify is also expanding several audiobook-focused tools introduced earlier this year. One of these is the “Page Match” feature, which now supports more than 30 additional languages, including French, German, and Swedish. Page Match allows users to scan a page from a physical book or e-book using their smartphone camera, then matches that content to the corresponding section in the audiobook.

Since launching Page Match for English-language books in February, Spotify reports that users who engage with Page Match listen to about 55% more audiobook content each week than other listeners. Additionally, 62% of the audiobook titles accessed through Page Match were books that users had not previously streamed on the platform.

Further updates include the full rollout of “Audiobook Recaps” on Android devices. This feature provides short, tailored audio summaries based on where the listener last left off in a book, helping users quickly return to the story without confusion.

Spotify also announced the expansion of its “Audiobook Charts,” similar to its existing music and podcast charts. After initially launching in the U.S. and U.K., these charts are now available in Germany, allowing users to discover trending and popular audiobook titles on the platform.
