Superhuman Acquires Fathom to Bring AI Meeting Notes Into Its Productivity Platform

Superhuman is acquiring Y Combinator-backed meeting notetaker Fathom, adding another source of workplace context to a productivity platform increasingly built around AI agents and automated follow-up.

The deal gives Superhuman access to a mature meeting-recording product rather than forcing it to build one from scratch. Fathom, founded in 2020, has raised more than $30 million and was valued at $94 million in 2024, according to PitchBook.

The company says Fathom has more than 400,000 monthly active users, while more than 1 million people have recorded meetings with the service. Its investors include Zoom Apps Fund, Telescope Partners, BoxOne Ventures and Maven Ventures, alongside individual backers such as Reddit CEO Steve Huffman, former Twitch CEO Emmett Shear and Cruise co-founder Kyle Vogt.

Why Superhuman wanted a meeting notetaker

Superhuman had already tested its own note-taking product with selected users. CEO Shishir Mehrotra said that work convinced the company both that demand was strong and that building a high-quality meeting recorder was more technically difficult than it might appear.

Rather than continue developing internally, Superhuman chose to acquire Fathom and integrate its capabilities into a broader productivity suite. Mehrotra said the company sees opportunities to surface meeting context in real time and connect discussions directly with other workplace tasks.

Fathom CEO Richard White saidSuperhuman’ss distribution was a major attraction. Operating independently would have required Fathom to build capabilities that already exist elsewhere in Superhuman’s platform.

Meeting data could power agentic workflows

Superhuman already offers email, documents, calendars and database tools, along with a recently launched AI agent builder platform. Adding meeting data gives those systems another source of information about decisions, assignments and follow-up work.

In practice, that could let Superhuman’s software use meeting context to draft emails, update database records, schedule follow-up meetings, or trigger AI agents without requiring users to manually transfer action items between applications.

The acquisition also comes as competition among AI meeting assistants intensifies. Startups including Granola, Read AI and Wispr have raised significant funding, while established productivity platforms are increasingly adding automated meeting summaries and follow-up features.

For standalone notetakers, the pressure is shifting from simply recording and summarising meetings toward helping users act on what was discussed. Fathom’s integration into Superhuman gives the product access to a wider set of workplace tools where users can immediately use that meeting context.
