Tesla introduces ‘streaks’ and usage stats to track Full Self-Driving activity

Tesla is introducing a redesigned self-driving app that allows vehicle owners to more easily subscribe to its Full Self-Driving software and provides detailed insights into how frequently and extensively the system is used. The updated app includes new tracking features such as multi-day usage streaks, bringing a gamified layer to the driver-assistance experience.

The company previewed the revamped self-driving app in a post on X, alongside several other features expected to arrive in its next major software update.

Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system, which first launched in beta in late 2020, has undergone continuous updates aimed at improving performance and reliability and reducing bugs. The system, available through a $99 monthly subscription, can handle tasks such as steering, lane changes, and parking. Despite these capabilities, the vehicles still require constant driver attention, meaning they are not fully autonomous.

Elon Musk has been positioning Tesla as more than just a car manufacturer, emphasising its ambitions in artificial intelligence and robotics. Full Self-Driving plays a central role in that strategy. One of the milestones tied to Musk’s recently approved $1 trillion compensation package is reaching 10 million active FSD subscriptions by 2035.

While the updated self-driving app might appear to be a minor change, it plays a meaningful role in improving accessibility and encouraging adoption. Currently, Tesla owners can subscribe to FSD via the vehicle’s touchscreen or mobile app, but accessing the subscription option requires navigating through multiple steps.

With the redesigned app, users can subscribe with a single tap. However, this feature will only be available to owners of Tesla vehicles equipped with the A14 chip, also known as FSD Hardware 4.0, which began shipping in January 2023.

The new app also introduces enhanced analytics. At present, FSD users can view total miles driven and the percentage of those miles completed using the system. The updated version expands on this by offering visual data representations, including bar charts that display FSD usage patterns.

Additionally, the app introduces a streak-tracking feature that shows how many consecutive days a driver has used Full Self-Driving, adding a new layer of engagement for users.

Full Self-Driving (Supervised) is currently available in several regions, including Australia, Canada, China, Mexico, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, South Korea, and the United States. In Europe, the system recently received regulatory approval, with the RDW granting authorisation for its use on April 10 following evaluation and testing.
