ChatGPT introduces new $100 per month Pro subscription plan

OpenAI announced on Thursday the introduction of a $ 100-per-month subscription plan, addressing long-standing demand from power users for a mid-tier option between its existing offerings.

Until now, ChatGPT’s pricing structure included a free plan (which now features ads), an 8-per-month Go plan (also ad-supported), a 20-per-month Plus plan (ad-free), and a top-tier 200-per-month Pro plan (ad-free). Although the $200 option is not currently displayed on OpenAI’s pricing page, the company confirmed that it is still available.

According to OpenAI, both the $20 Plus plan and the newly introduced $100 Pro tier are designed to support regular use of ChatGPT’s coding tool, Codex. The new $100 plan provides five times the Codex capacity of the Plus subscription.

OpenAI made it clear that this pricing move is aimed at competing with Anthropic, which has long offered a $ 1,100-per-month plan for its Claude platform.

“The new $100 Pro Tier is designed to give developers more practical coding capacity for the money, especially during high-intensity work sessions where limits matter most. Compared with Claude Code, Codex delivers more coding capacity per dollar across paid tiers, with the difference showing up most clearly during active coding use,” an OpenAI spokesperson said.

For a limited time, OpenAI is offering increased Codex limits on the $100 plan through May 31. Users who test the plan during this period may notice higher usage capacity than what will be available afterwards.

None of the subscription tiers provides unlimited usage. However, the $200 Pro plan offers limits that are 20 times higher than those of the Plus plan. According to OpenAI’s FAQ, this level is sufficient to handle demanding workflows, including multiple parallel projects. Both Pro tiers share the same core features, with the primary distinction being usage limits.

The company also shared that more than 3 million users worldwide are now using Codex each week, representing a fivefold increase over the past three months. Usage has also been growing at a rate exceeding 70% month over month.
