ChatGPT surpasses 900 million weekly active users worldwide
ChatGPT has crossed 900 million weekly active users globally, reflecting the rapid adoption of AI chat tools across work, education, research, and everyday digital tasks.
ChatGPT has climbed to 900 million weekly active users, OpenAI said on Friday, bringing the AI chatbot close to the 1 billion mark. OpenAI also reported that it now counts 50 million paying subscribers.
“Subscriber momentum accelerated meaningfully to start the year, with January and February on track to be the largest months for new subscribers in our history,” the company wrote in a blog post. “People use ChatGPT to learn, write, plan, and build. As usage scales, the product improves in ways people feel immediately: faster responses, higher reliability, stronger safety, and more consistent performance.”
The new weekly active user total represents an increase of 100 million from the 800 million figure OpenAI shared in October 2025.
OpenAI released updated metrics alongside news that it has secured $110 billion in private funding, describing it as one of the biggest private funding rounds ever. The financing includes a $50 billion investment from Amazon, plus $30 billion each from Nvidia and SoftBank, valuing the company at $730 billion pre-money.
