Google DeepMind Invests $75M in A24 to Shape AI-Powered Filmmaking
Google DeepMind has invested $75 million in A24 to develop AI-powered filmmaking and production tools. Discover how the partnership could influence Hollywood’s future while keeping creative control in filmmakers’ hands.
A new partnership is bringing together one ofHollywood’ss leading independent film studios and one of the world’s biggest AI companies.
On Monday, Google DeepMind announced a $75 million investment in acclaimed independent studio A24, according to The Wall Street Journal. Known for films including Marty Supreme, Everything Everywhere All at Once, and the recent hit Backrooms, A24 will work with Google DeepMind in what the company describes as a first-of-its-kind partnership to develop AI-powered filmmaking tools. As part of the collaboration, Google DeepMind said it will receive feedback and creative guidance from leading filmmakers and artists. A24 has recently collaborated with major stars, including Timothée Chalamet and Anne Hathaway, on several productions.
“We believe the best way to develop tools that empower artists is to work directly with them,” Google DeepMind co-founder and CEO Demis Hassabis said in a press release. He added that partnering with filmmakers and industry leaders, such as A24, from the outset would help the company build AI features that support authentic and meaningful storytelling and enable creators to bring their artistic vision to life.
The partnership comes as the use of artificial intelligence in film production continues to generate debate across Hollywood. However, A24 is far from the first studio to explore AI as part of the creative process. Earlier this year, Netflix announced its acquisition of Ben Affleck’s company, InterPositive, which develops AI tools for filmmakers. Last year, Amazon’s MGM Studios also launched a dedicated AI division focused on creating technology for television and movie production.
