Apple Reportedly Seeks Publisher Deals to Bring Current News to Siri AI

Apple is reportedly negotiating with news publishers over agreements that could give its upcoming Siri AI assistant access to current news and information, as the company prepares a major upgrade to its longtime voice assistant.

The discussions have taken place in recent months and involve proposed multiyear agreements, according to The Wall Street Journal. Apple has considered allocating a nine-figure budget to the initiative, though no publisher deals have been publicly announced. Apple declined to comment on the report.

Apple explores pay-per-use model for Siri AI

Apple’s proposed compensation structure would differ from many existing AI licensing agreements. Instead of guaranteeing publishers a fixed payment for broad access to their content, Apple has discussed paying participating publishers when Siri actually uses their material.

The approach could give Siri access to timely reporting while creating a direct link between content usage and publisher compensation. Apple has previously paid publishers through other commercial arrangements, including Apple News+, and has also entered agreements that included rights related to AI training.

Siri AI is scheduled for beta release later this year

The publisher talks come as Apple prepares to roll out Siri AI, a rebuilt version of the assistant powered by Apple Intelligence. Apple introduced the new system at WWDC in June and has already made features available for developer testing across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 and visionOS 27.

Apple says Siri AI will become available as a beta later in 2026 for users with supported devices set to English, with additional language support planned afterwards. The reported publisher negotiations suggest that current news could become another important source of information as Apple works to make Siri more capable and useful for everyday queries.
