Databricks Acquires Row Zero to Combine AI Agents With Spreadsheets

Databricks has acquired Row Zero, a cloud-based spreadsheet startup, as it expands the ways businesses can work with enterprise data and AI agents. The company announced the acquisition Thursday but did not disclose the financial terms.

Row Zero allows businesses to work with spreadsheets containing more than 1 million live rows. Databricks plans to combine the technology with Genie, its AI agent that lets users ask complex questions about business data using natural language.

Bringing AI Agents Into Enterprise Spreadsheets

The acquisition began after Databricks executives discovered that the company’s finance team was already using Row Zero alongside Genie. CEO Ali Ghodsi explained that combining spreadsheets, business intelligence, and AI agents could make enterprise data more accessible to employees.

With Row Zero integrated into Databricks, analysts can use familiar spreadsheet formulas and interfaces to examine business information without transferring sensitive data into separate spreadsheet files.

Founded by former AWS and Tableau engineers, Row Zero raised $10 million in May 2025. PitchBook estimated its valuation at $40 million at the time.

Databricks Plans More Startup Acquisitions

Databricks has been expanding its business through funding and acquisitions. In August, the company secured another $5 billion in financing and reported an annualised revenue run rate of $7 billion.

Its recent acquisitions include Quotient AI, which develops tools for evaluating and training AI agents, and interactive notebook startup SiftD.ai. In June, Databricks also announced its acquisition of cybersecurity startup Panther.

The company subsequently acquired Electric, the developer behind PGlite, a lightweight PostgreSQL database that can support AI agents running locally on devices.

Ghodsi said Databricks intends to pursue more acquisitions as it develops its enterprise data and AI platform.
