YouTube Adds New Community Features for Fans and Creators

YouTube is introducing new community-focused features designed to improve interactions between creators and viewers while giving creators more ways to build audiences and earn from fan support.

The updates include GIF support in comments, TV-based commenting, personalised moderation tools, expanded channel memberships, and new fan engagement features. YouTube announced the new features during its Made On YouTube event.

New Ways for Fans to Interact

YouTube comments are getting new options, including the ability to respond with GIFs and leave comments while watching videos on connected TVs For TV viewers, YouTube says comments can be added through voice input instead of typing with a remote control.

The company is also testing personalised comment moderation tools that let creators adjust moderation based on their community needs. YouTube said the feature is currently an experiment and did not provide technical details about how the system works.

Paid Communities and Fan Support Tools

YouTube is expanding Channel Memberships with paid, members-only communities where fans can share posts and discussions with other supporters. The company plans to promote these communities through a dedicated channel memberships page to help viewers discover creators they may want to support.

The platform is also expanding Hype, a feature that allows fans to promote videos from smaller creators. A new option called Hype with Jewels will let fans purchase virtual currency to support videos beyond the existing free weekly limits.

More Tools for Creator Communities

YouTube said fans have already used Hype to support more than 75 million unique videos over 1 billion times. The company says the new tools are designed to create additional ways for creators and audiences to connect.

YouTube is also adding group chat support to its direct messaging feature for sharing videos. Users can record quick videos and share them in group conversations.

The community updates are launching alongside other creator tools focused on video testing, live dubbing, AI-assisted editing, and content creation.
