Disney+ and Hulu Raise Prices as Streaming Costs Continue to Increase
Disney raises Disney+ and Hulu subscription prices as streaming platforms continue to raise costs and explore new business models.
Disney is raising subscription prices for Disney+ and Hulu, becoming the latest major streaming company to increase costs as the industry continues to move away from early low-price plans.
The new prices affect both standalone subscriptions and bundled plans. Disney’s updated pricing information shows the latest subscription changes.
New Disney+ and Hulu Subscription Prices
The ad-free Disney+ and Hulu bundle will increase to $21.99 per month from $19.99. Standalone ad-free plans for Disney+ and Hulu will rise to $21.49 per month from $18.99. Bloomberg reported on Disney’s latest streaming price increases.
The company is also increasing the price of standalone ad-supported Disney+ and Hulu plans to $12.49 per month.
Streaming Industry Continues Price Increases
Disney’s latest adjustment follows similar moves from other streaming platforms. Peacock and Apple TV raised prices in August, while Netflix also increased subscription costs earlier this year.
When Disney+ launched in 2019, the basic monthly subscription started at $6.99. Since then, Disney has gradually increased prices as it works to make streaming a more profitable part of its entertainment business.
Disney Expands Beyond Subscription Price Changes
Streaming remains an important part of Disney’s business. In its third-quarter 2026 results, the company reported that entertainment streaming revenue from Disney+ and Hulu increased to $5.5 billion, supported by subscriber growth and previous price increases. Disney publishes its financial results through its investor relations website.
Disney is also exploring other ways to grow its streaming audience. The company has reportedly considered a free Disney+ tier that could compete more directly with free streaming platforms.
Earlier this month, Disney+ introduced Playlists, a feature designed to help users discover and continuously watch curated collections of content.
Technology Leadership Changes
Disney has also made technology changes, including hiring Karandeep Anand as its first chief technology officer. Anand previously served as CEO of Character.AI.
The latest price increases show how streaming companies are continuing to adjust their strategies as they balance subscription growth, revenue goals, and changing viewer habits.
