YouTube is introducing Shorts Series, a new feature that lets creators organise short-form videos into seasons and episodes, bringing a more traditional TV-style structure to Shorts content.

The feature lets viewers watch connected Shorts as a continuous story instead of scrolling through separate clips. YouTube announced Shorts Series as part of its Made On YouTube event.

Shorts Gets a Season and Episode Format

With Shorts Series, creators can group related videos with custom thumbnails and dedicated playback. The series will appear on a creator’s channel and will be available across web, mobile, and connected TV platforms for creators in the YouTube Partner Program.

The update comes as short-form episodic storytelling, often called microdrama, continues gaining attention. Creators have increasingly experimented with vertical dramas and serialised content as audiences show interest in watching connected stories in short formats.

Creators Explore Microdrama Opportunities

Some YouTube creators have already moved into vertical storytelling projects. Hannah Stocking has participated in the musical microdrama “Playback,” expanding beyond traditional creator content into scripted short-form entertainment; Variety reported on Stocking’s involvement in the microdrama project.

Other creators have also entered the space, including Joshua Ovenshire, known as The Jovenshire, who has worked on vertical series projects such as “Secrets and Soulmates.” The project is part of his work in developing serialised vertical content.

YouTube Competes in Growing Microdrama Market

YouTube’s move places Shorts in competition with dedicated microdrama platforms and other social networks investing in episodic vertical entertainment.

The company says Shorts Series builds on earlier Creator Shows tools that helped selected creators organise content into seasons and episodes for a more television-like viewing experience.

The feature joins other recent creator updates from YouTube, including live collaboration tools, video testing features, dynamic thumbnails, and shopping tools designed to help creators grow their audiences.
