Google Photos Adds AI Virtual Closet Feature

Google Photos has launched a new AI-powered virtual closet feature that helps users organise their outfits and explore different clothing combinations using photos.

The feature is now available to Android and iOS users in the U.S., Brazil, and India after first rolling out to Android users earlier this year.

AI Creates a Digital Wardrobe

The virtual closet uses AI to identify clothing items from users’ photos and create a digital version of their wardrobe. Users can organise items by categories such as tops, bottoms, and accessories, then mix and match pieces to discover new outfit ideas.

The feature is inspired by the digital wardrobe concept shown in the movie “Clueless,” where a virtual system helped organise outfits and choose what to wear. The concept has been compared to Cher’s iconic virtual closet from the film.

Privacy and AI Photo Updates

Google says it doesn’t share wardrobe information created through the feature with third parties, including retailers. The company designed the tool to help users manage their own photos and clothing collections.

The virtual closet rollout comes alongside other Google Photos updates, including AI-powered editing features, improved markup tools, and new Remix templates.

More AI Tools in Google Photos

Google Photos is also adding new editing options that allow users to select, enhance, and share photos through prompts using Gemini Spark. The feature requires a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription in the U.S.

Android users are also getting new “Moods” filters that can change image style with effects inspired by looks such as 35mm film and early digital camera photography.

The updates show Google’s continued push to integrate AI into everyday photo management and creative tools.
