OpenAI has acquired presentation startup NextSlide, bringing its team into the company to work on ChatGPT.

NextSlide announced it was joining OpenAI, though the deal was completed earlier this year. Financial terms were not disclosed.

NextSlide’s product uses AI to turn prompts, notes, documents, and research into editable presentations. The startup focused on making it easier to create clear, visual slides from ideas and source material.

Founder Ahmed Beshry said the company aimed to improve visual communication and help people express ideas more clearly. He said the team will continue that mission at OpenAI by building tools that help users create, communicate, and turn ideas into work.

The acquisition brings OpenAI a team experienced in AI-powered presentation tools. NextSlide’s technology automated much of the process of turning content into structured slides while keeping them editable.

Beshry said in a LinkedIn post that the announcement came “a few months late,” confirming the deal had already closed earlier in the year.

Before NextSlide, Beshry co-founded Caper AI, which built smart shopping carts and cashierless checkout systems. Instacart acquired Caper AI in 2021.

The deal comes as OpenAI expands ChatGPT beyond a conversational assistant. Presentation tools are a growing area in AI, with companies using generative models to turn text and documents into visual content.

OpenAI has not shared details on how NextSlide’s technology will be integrated, but the acquisition could strengthen ChatGPT’s ability to create and present information.
