Google is expanding its vision for artificial intelligence in the living room, previewing a range of new Gemini-powered features for Google TV at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2026 in Las Vegas.

Google introduced Gemini AI to Google TV devices and, at CES, demonstrated how upcoming features will further enhance the TV-watching experience. The new capabilities will allow viewers to explore topics in depth, search and creatively rework personal photos and videos, and control TV settings using natural voice commands rather than navigating complex menus.

Google said the new Gemini features will first arrive on select TCL televisions before being rolled out more widely to other Google TV devices in the months ahead. Explicitly designed for large-screen experiences, Gemini for Google TV enables users to talk naturally to their television. Viewers can ask for recommendations, request a recap of a favourite series, or search for content by describing a plot or mentioning an actor when they can’t remember a title. For example, users might ask for something to watch that blends two people’s tastes or inquire, “What’s the new hospital drama everyone’s talking about?”

Gemini responds through a visually rich interface that adapts to each request, combining text, imagery, videt, and real-time informatio,n such as sports updates when relevant.

Google also highlighted the TV’s potential as an educational tool. At CES, the company showed how Gemini can deliver in-depth explanations on topics users want to learn about. The TV screen can present narrated, interactive overviews that break down complex ideas, with the option for users to ask follow-up questions to continue learning.

In addition, Gemini will let users search their Google Photos library for specific people, places, or moments. Users can apply AI-driven artistic styles to photos and videos to turn their memories into cinematic slideshows, according to Google.

One of the most practical new features is the simplified TV settings. With Gemini, users can adjust picture and sound using voice commands such as “the screen is too dim” or “I can’t hear the dialogue.” Gemini will automatically modify the appropriate settings without interrupting the show or movie currently playing.

Google said the new Gemini features will require Google TV devices running Android TV OS 14 or later and an active internet connection. Availability will vary by language, country, and device at launch, and users will need a Google account to access the Gemini for TV experience.
