Spotify Launches Conversational AI Assistant for Premium Users on Mobile
Spotify has introduced a conversational AI assistant for Premium users, enabling voice and text interactions to discover music, podcasts, and audiobooks.
Spotify has expanded its artificial intelligence strategy by introducing a conversational assistant that allows Premium subscribers to interact with the streaming service using either voice or text. The new feature is designed to help users discover music, podcasts, and audiobooks through natural conversations instead of relying only on traditional search or browsing tools.
The rollout began Tuesday as a beta release for Premium subscribers aged 18 and older in the United States, Ireland, and Sweden. The feature is currently available in English on iOS and Android devices, and Spotify says user feedback from the beta period will help refine the experience.
The launch marks another step in SSpotify’sbroader effort to make navigating its audio catalogue more interactive through artificial intelligence while giving listeners greater control over recommendations and playback.
Natural Conversations Replace Traditional Search
Unlike standard keyword searches, the new assistant enables users to have ongoing conversations with Spotify. Listeners can begin with a broad request, then continue refining recommendations through follow-up questions or additional instructions.
Spotify said users can ask the assistant to play artists they have not heard before, narrow recommendations by release date, request a different mood, or include a specific performer. The conversation can continue until the listener finds the desired selection.
The assistant also performs actions beyond recommendations. Users can save tracks, add songs to the playback queue, and follow artists directly through conversational commands.
Spotify confirmed that the feature is powered by a combination of the company’s own artificial intelligence technologies alongside models provided by multiple external partners. The company said it selects the technology best suited to a particular task, but did not identify the individual model providers.
Building onSpotify’ss Existing AI Features
The conversational assistant expands Spotify’s AI portfolio, which it has been steadily building in recent years. Existing tools include the AI DJ, which presents music selections through an AI-generated voice, along with playlist-generation features that respond to user prompts.
Spotify has also introduced integrations that allow users to connect the streaming service to external AI chatbots, including ChatGPT, to create playlists more efficiently.
The latest assistant broadens those capabilities by allowing conversations throughout the mobile application, including both the Home screen and the Now Playing interface.
Helping Users Explore Listening Habits
Beyond finding songs, the assistant is designed to answer questions about an individual’s listening activity. Users can ask when they first streamed a particular track, explore which genres they have been listening to most frequently, or request insights into their recent music habits.
The assistant can also provide factual information related to artists, albums, podcasts, and audiobooks. Users may ask about album release dates, learn more about the inspiration behind songs when available, or receive recommendations based on their current listening choices.
Background
Artificial intelligence has become a growing focus across the music streaming industry as platforms seek more personalised ways to connect listeners with content. Spotify has gradually expanded its AI capabilities through recommendation systems, playlist generation, and interactive features that simplify content discovery.
The new conversational assistant represents the company’s latest effort to integrate AI more deeply into the everyday listening experience while maintaining its existing catalogue of music, podcasts, and audiobooks.
Spotify said the beta feature is now rolling out to eligible Premium subscribers in the United States, Ireland, and Sweden on supported mobile devices. The company has not announced when the assistant will expand to additional countries or languages.
