The pace of the AI sector showed little sign of easing in 2025. Although the number of companies securing individual funding rounds of more than $1 billion declined, the year still stood out for another reason: a growing share of startups raised multiple large rounds. In fact, four companies — with Anthropic alone closing two rounds above the $1 billion mark — joined that category, compared with eight companies that raised multiple rounds in 2024.

The question now is how 2026 will stack up. Early signals suggest another robust year may be taking shape. Elon Musk’s xAI revealed a massive $20 billion Series E round. At the same time, Sam Altman’s brain–computer interface startup, Merge Labs, announced a $250 million seed round led by OpenAI within the first weeks of the year. While it’s still very early, these openings point to continued momentum. We’ll be tracking closely to see whether that pace holds.
