Lucid Motors Partners With Bolt to Explore Robotaxi Deployment in Europe

Lucid Motors and European mobility platform Bolt have announced a partnership to explore developing and deploying autonomous vehicles for a potential robotaxi service in Europe.

Under the agreement, Bolt aims to deploy at least 25,000 fully autonomous vehicles built on Lucid’s upcoming mid-size electric vehicle architecture. The companies said they will work together on an autonomous-driving-system-ready vehicle platform.

Lucid and Bolt target future autonomous mobility

The partnership will focus on vehicles designed around Lucid’s future EV platform, which is expected to be smaller and more affordable than the company’s current models. The vehicles will use Nvidia’s Hyperion autonomous vehicle computing and sensing architecture, although the companies have not disclosed which provider will supply the self-driving software.

Bolt plans to own and operate the autonomous fleet as part of its broader goal of expanding robotaxi services. However, Bolt has not announced any financial details, placed a vehicle order, or provided a deployment timeline.

The announcement follows changes at Lucid, including workforce reductions and delays to its first vehicle based on the mid-size platform. The company is also working with Uber and autonomous vehicle company Nuro on a robotaxi version of its Gravity SUV, expected to launch by the end of 2026.

Building toward European robotaxi operations

Lucid said the partnership with Bolt could help expand autonomous mobility across Europe. Bolt CEO Markus Villig said the companies will combine Lucid’s vehicle platform with Bolt’s operating experience across more than 850 cities.

The companies described the agreement as an early step toward Bolt’s ambition of supporting 100,000 autonomous vehicles on its platform by 2035.

Lucid and Bolt’s announcement did not confirm when autonomous vehicles will begin operating commercially in Europe.
