Meta increases Quest 3 and Quest 3S prices amid global RAM shortage

Meta has announced an increase in the pricing of its virtual reality headsets, citing rising costs of key hardware components, particularly memory chips. The changes take effect starting April 19 and impact several models across the Quest lineup.

The price of the Meta Quest 3S (128GB) will rise by $50 to $349.99, while the 256GB version will also increase by $50, bringing its new price to $449.99. Meanwhile, the higher-end Meta Quest 3 will see a larger jump, with its price increasing by $100 to $599.99.

In a statement shared through its official blog, Meta explained that the decision reflects broader changes in the cost of producing advanced VR hardware. The company noted that a global increase in the price of critical components — especially RAM — is affecting multiple segments of the consumer electronics industry, including virtual reality devices.

Meta said the adjustment is necessary to maintain the performance standards, software ecosystem, and overall support that users expect from the Quest platform. The company also confirmed that the updated pricing will apply to refurbished Quest units, while accessories associated with the lineup will remain unchanged for now.

The move places Meta among a growing list of major technology companies responding to the ongoing memory shortage. Firms such as Samsung, Microsoft, and Sony have also adjusted hardware pricing in response to increased component costs.

As supply constraints continue to influence the market, pricing pressure across consumer hardware categories is expected to persist, particularly for devices that rely heavily on high-performance memory components.
