OpenAI Acquires Health Records Startup Torch for a Reported $100M
OpenAI has purchased the health data startup Torch, integrating its AI-ready medical records technology into ChatGPT Health as the company expands its healthcare offerings.
OpenAI has acquired a small health records startup, Torch, for an undisclosed amount. According to an unnamed source cited by The Information, OpenAI paid roughly $100 million in equity for the acquisition. Both companies confirmed that Torch’s four-person team will be joining OpenAI.
We’ve acquired Torch, a healthcare startup that unifies lab results, medications, and visit recordings. Bringing this together with ChatGPT Health opens up a new way to understand and manage your health.

Torch had been developing an application designed to consolidate an individual’s medical information from a wide range of sources for use by artificial intelligence. These sources included doctor visits, lab results, wearable devices, and other health portals, such as consumer wellness tests. The company described its technology as “a medical memory for AI,” designed to unify fragmented health records into a single contextual engine.
Torch co-founder Ilya Abyzov said in a post on X that the founding team first connected while working at Forward Health, a startup known for operating AI-powered doctors’ offices. Forward Health abruptly shut down in late 2024 after raising more than $400 million in funding.
This acquisition represents a different outcome for the Torch team and its technology. The company’s tools and staff will now become part of ChatGPT Health, OpenAI’s recently announced service that helps users analyse and manage health-related information through its chatbot.
