OpenAI Introduces ChatGPT Health, Says 230 Million Users Ask Health Questions Weekly
OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Health, a new feature that provides a dedicated space for health conversations, noting that 230 million users ask health-related questions weekly.
OpenAI announced on Wednesday that ChatGPT Health, a new feature that provides users with a dedicated space to discuss health and wellness topics with ChatGPT.
Health questions are already standard on the platform. OpenAI says more than 230 million users ask about medical or wellness topics every week. With ChatGPT Health, those conversations are now separated from users’ general chats, preventing health-related context from appearing in unrelated discussions.
If a user begins discussing health topics outside the Health section, ChatGPT will prompt them to move the conversation into the dedicated space.
Within ChatGPT Health, the assistant can still draw on relevant context from a user’s broader interactions. For example, if someone previously asked ChatGPT for help creating a marathon training plan, the system may remember that the user is a runner when discussing fitness goals inside the Health experience.
The new feature will also support integration with personal data and medical information from select wellness platforms, including Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal. OpenAI emphasised that conversations within ChatGPT Health will not be used to train its AI models.
In a blog post announcing the launch, Fidji Simo, OpenAI’s CEO of Applications, said the product is intended to address ongoing challenges in healthcare, including high costs, limited access, overburdened clinicians, and fragmented care.
Despite those goals, using AI chatbots for health information raises well-known concerns. Large language models like ChatGPT generate responses based on probability rather than factual verification, and they can produce incorrect or misleading information, a phenomenon often referred to as hallucination.
OpenAI reiterates in its terms of service that ChatGPT is “not intended for use in the diagnosis or treatment of any health condition.”
ChatGPT Health is expected to begin rolling out to users in the coming weeks.
