Waymo Opens Dallas Robotaxi Service to All Riders
Waymo has removed the waitlist for its Dallas robotaxi service, allowing all residents and visitors to book autonomous rides through its app.
Waymo has opened its robotaxi service in Dallas to all residents and visitors, removing the waitlist that had been in place since the autonomous ride-hailing platform launched earlier this year. The move marks the latest step in the Alphabet-owned company’s expansion of self-driving transportation services across the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe.
Beginning Tuesday, anyone in Dallas can download the Waymo app and immediately request a ride without joining a waiting list. The company said rides to Dallas Love Field Airport are not yet available as it continues testing its autonomous vehicles at the airport, with passenger service expected to begin in the future.
Waymo first established operations in Dallas last year when it began testing its self-driving technology on public roads and announced plans for a commercial launch in 2026. The company partnered with Avis Budget Group to manage its fleet of all-electric Jaguar I-Pace robotaxis, with Avis overseeing charging, maintenance and other depot operations.
Waitlist removed after public rollout
The robotaxi service became available to the public in February through an invitation-based waitlist. During that period, approximately 150,000 riders used the Waymo app in Dallas, according to the company.
Removing the waitlist follows the same expansion strategy Waymo previously used in other cities where it operates, including Phoenix, Los Angeles and San Francisco, opening the service to all users after an initial limited-access phase.
Weather remains an operational challenge
Waymo’s rollout in Texas has not been without challenges. In May, the company temporarily suspended operations in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and Atlanta because its autonomous vehicles encountered difficulties navigating heavy rainfall and flooded road conditions.
Service has since resumed, but Waymo said it may continue to reduce or temporarily suspend operations when severe weather or flood warnings create unsafe driving conditions. The company added that riders can check the availability of robotaxi service through the Waymo app before requesting a trip.
