YouTube Announces Voluntary Exit Program for U.S. Employees
YouTube CEO Neal Mohan announced a voluntary exit program for U.S. employees as part of a significant reorganisation of the product team into three divisions: Subscriptions, Viewer Products, and Creator & Community.
YouTube has launched a voluntary exit program for its U.S.-based employees, offering severance packages as part of an internal reorganisation, the company confirmed on Wednesday. The move, first reported by industry sources, follows a broader structural shift within the Google-owned video platform.
In an internal memo, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan informed employees of the voluntary exit plan and outlined a new organisational structure for the company’s product divisions. According to the memo, YouTube’s product operations are being reorganised into three independent teams, each reporting directly to Mohan.
The new divisions include:
-
Subscription Products is responsible for managing YouTube’s subscription-based services, including YouTube Music, YouTube Premium, and OTT offerings.
-
Viewer Products, focusing on enhancing the viewing experience across YouTube’s ecosystem — from the main YouTube app to YouTube Kids, Learning, and Trust & Safety features.
-
Creator & Community Products, dedicated to improving tools, monetisation, and engagement for content creators and their audiences.
YouTube emphasised that no roles are being eliminated as part of this reorganisation. The voluntary exit program is optional and designed to provide flexibility for employees considering career transitions while aligning internal operations under Mohan’s leadership.
The restructuring announcement coincided with Alphabet’s third-quarter earnings release, where YouTube reported $10.26 billion in advertising revenue, a 15% year-over-year increase — highlighting the platform’s continued strength amid shifts in digital advertising and AI-driven media consumption.
YouTube’s renewed focus on product segmentation suggests an effort to streamline its strategic priorities across subscription growth, creator support, and user experience enhancement as competition intensifies in the short-form and streaming video markets.
