Amazon’s new eero Signal keeps you connected to the internet when outages occur
Amazon introduces eero Signal, a new connectivity device designed to keep homes online during internet outages by providing automatic cellular backup.
Amazon-owned eero has introduced a new device designed to maintain internet access during service disruptions. The $99.99 eero Signal 4G LTE, unveiled on Wednesday, functions as an automatic backup connection whenever a primary broadband link fails, as long as users are subscribed to an eligible eero plan.
The setup process is straightforward. Customers connect the eero Signal to any compatible USB-C-powered eero router that supports Wi-Fi 6 or later standards. If the main internet service goes offline, the device seamlessly transitions to a cellular connection. Once the standard broadband connection is restored, the eero Signal automatically switches back to Standby mode.
The device is particularly suited for remote workers who require reliable connectivity, households that rely on always-on security systems, and individuals in regions with frequent service interruptions.
Because the cellular backup is intended for occasional use rather than continuous connectivity, the associated subscription pricing is lower than many traditional 4G LTE data plans. At launch, customers can opt for a $99.99 annual eero Plus subscription that includes 10 GB of backup data, or choose the $199.99 eero Plus 100 plan, which provides 100 GB of backup data. Both plans offer introductory discounts when purchased alongside the device.
According to eero, the Signal supports multiple major carriers, including AT&T and Verizon. It features a built-in multi-carrier eSIM that automatically connects to the strongest available network at any given time.
The company also confirmed that a 5G-enabled version of the eero Signal will launch later this year for $199.99. In addition, compatibility with eero Business plans is expected to be introduced soon, expanding the device’s availability to commercial users.
