Apple Delays Smart Glasses Launch as Privacy Concerns Take Centre Stage

Apple has reportedly delayed the launch of its first smart glasses as it works to address privacy concerns surrounding wearable devices equipped with cameras.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple has pushed its target launch from early 2027 to the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2027, with the smart glasses expected to reach customers later that year. The additional development time will allow Apple to refine both the product and its privacy-focused messaging.

The reported delay comes as camera-equipped smart glasses face growing scrutiny over their potential use for non-consensual video recording. Apple, which has long positioned privacy as a key part of its brand, is said to be developing features that distinguish its approach from competing products.

Among the reported privacy measures are on-device processing and the absence of facial recognition capabilities. Apple is also expected to avoid using customer recordings to train its AI models and is unlikely to adopt the reported practice of having contractors review user footage.

While Apple has not officially announced the device, the reported strategy suggests the company is aiming to make privacy a central selling point as competition in the smart glasses market continues to grow.
