Video game giant Electronic Arts (EA) is reportedly closing in on a $50 billion acquisition deal involving Silver Lake and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), according to The Wall Street Journal.
EA is best known for its blockbuster sports franchises, such as Madden NFL, FIFA, and NBA Live, as well as popular series like The Sims, Battlefield, Need for Speed, and Star Wars.
If finalised, the deal could become the largest leveraged buyout in history, primarily financed through debt.
Following the report that EA may go private under this arrangement, the company’s stock surged 15% on Friday afternoon.
