Google Rolls Out New Windows Desktop App With Spotlight-Like Search Tool
Google has launched a new Windows desktop app with a Spotlight-like search bar, letting users quickly find files, apps, Google Drive content, and web results using Alt + Space.
Google announced on Tuesday the launch of a new experimental desktop app for Windows designed to make finding information faster and more efficient. With a simple Alt + Space shortcut, users can instantly search through computer files, installed apps, Google Drive content, and the web.
The search function works much like Spotlight on Mac, offering quick access to almost anything on the device or online.
The new app is being introduced through Search Labs, Google’s program for testing experimental features with users before a wider release.
According to Google, the app also integrates Google Lens, allowing users to highlight and search anything on their screen. This enables instant translations, text recognition, math problem solving, and more. In addition, the app supports AI Mode, where users can ask complex, multi-step questions for deeper answers.
Users can toggle between categories such as all results, AI mode, images, shopping, videos, and others. A dark mode option is also included.
Currently, the app is available only in English and restricted to users in the United States. It requires a PC running Windows 10 or newer.
