Facebook Marketplace is introducing a new set of Meta AI-powered features, including one that can automatically respond to messages from potential buyers, the company announced on Thursday. In addition, Facebook is using AI to help sellers create listings more quickly, generate profile summaries, and offer shipping options on their items.

The company said that because sellers often receive a high volume of inquiries, it is making it easier to handle initial messages by offering auto-replies powered by Meta AI. When buyers ask about an item’s availability, sellers can now rely on Meta AI to draft responses automatically, pulling details from the listing such as the description, price, availability, and pickup location. Sellers will be able to enable, preview, and modify these responses while creating their listings.

This feature is designed to address a common issue for sellers, who frequently deal with repetitive or time-consuming questions, such as whether an item is still available, even when it is clearly marked as such. In fact, one seller had previously built their own AI tool last year to manage these types of early inquiries.

Facebook Marketplace is also adding a feature that allows sellers to create listings automatically with the help of Meta AI. After uploading an image of an item, the AI can generate a draft listing, populate key details, and even suggest a price based on similar listings in the local area.

On the buyer side, users will now see a summary of a seller’s Facebook profile displayed at the top of their Marketplace page. This includes information such as how long the seller has been on Facebook and how many friends they have. It also provides an overview of their Marketplace activity, including their listing history, the types of items they typically sell, and their seller ratings.

Sellers will also be able to expand their reach by offering shipping on their listings, according to Facebook. They can generate prepaid shipping labels and track orders through a simple dashboard.

These new additions build on Facebook Marketplace’s existing Meta AI integrations, which already include tools that help buyers ask relevant questions when making a purchase, as well as AI-driven insights for vehicle listings.
