London-based consumer technology company Nothing is reportedly planning to expand its product lineup with new AI-focused devices, including a pair of smart glasses expected to launch next year, according to a Bloomberg report citing sources familiar with the matter.

The upcoming smart glasses are expected to include cameras, microphones, and speakers, and will likely connect to a smartphone and cloud-based systems to process AI-related tasks and queries. These features suggest the device will function as an extension of the user’s mobile ecosystem, combining hardware with cloud-driven intelligence.

CEO and co-founder Carl Pei was initially hesitant about entering the smart glasses category. However, he has since indicated internally that the company is shifting toward a broader multi-device strategy. This approach would move Nothing beyond its current focus on smartphones and audio products, positioning it to compete across a wider range of connected devices.

In addition to the smart glasses, the company is also reportedly working on a new pair of earbuds equipped with AI capabilities, which could launch as early as this year. Previously, Pei had mentioned that Nothing planned to introduce its first dedicated AI device in 2026, although he did not specify what form that product would take.

If these plans materialise, Nothing would enter a competitive market that already includes players such as Meta, Rokid, and other smart-glasses manufacturers. Meta, in particular, has already released multiple iterations of its smart glasses and recently introduced models that support prescription lenses. Meanwhile, Apple is widely rumoured to be developing its own smart glasses for release next year, and Google is expected to launch smart glasses developed in partnership with Samsung later this year.

Nothing achieved unicorn status last year after raising $200 million in a Series C funding round at a valuation of $1.3 billion. The company has built a strong following among technology enthusiasts for its distinctive product designs, which often incorporate transparent elements. Despite this popularity, it still holds a relatively small share of the global smartphone market, which remains dominated by major players such as Apple, Samsung, and other established manufacturers.

Pei has consistently emphasised that the company must innovate across both hardware and software to differentiate itself in a highly competitive industry. As part of this effort, Nothing introduced a tool last year that enables users to create mini-applications using AI-generated prompts, reflecting its growing focus on integrating AI into its ecosystem.
