OpenAI Pushes Ahead With Ambitious ChatGPT Super App Vision

OpenAI is preparing to launch a revamped version of ChatGPT in the coming weeks that will serve as a broader AI “super app,” combining conversational AI, coding tools, and autonomous AI agents, according to a Financial Times report.

The initiative is part of OpenAI’s effort to strengthen its position against competitors such as Anthropic, particularly in the enterprise market, while creating new revenue opportunities ahead of a potential future IPO.

Under the strategy, ChatGPT will become the central gateway to OpenAI’s growing portfolio of products. The company hopes to convert free users into paying customers by offering access to premium services, including its coding platform, Codex, and other advanced AI tools.

The report cites a senior OpenAI employee who described the company’s evolving vision as “chat is dead,” reflecting a shift beyond traditional chatbot interactions.

Thibault Sottiaux, who leads OpenAI’s core product and platform teams, said the company is working toward a future where users have a personal AI agent capable of assisting with both professional and personal tasks.

The plans build on last year’s reports, suggesting that OpenAI wanted to create a unified AI platform. Earlier this year, The Wall Street Journal reported that the company was moving away from standalone projects and focusing on integrating more capabilities directly into ChatGPT.
