Oura buys gesture-recognition startup Doublepoint to expand wearable technology
Oura acquires gesture recognition startup Doublepoint to enhance wearable interaction technology and expand capabilities across smart rings and connected devices.
Oura said on Thursday that it has acquired Doublepoint, a startup known for technology that lets users control wearable devices with small, natural movements, combining artificial intelligence with biometric data. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
The deal opens the door for Oura to bring these types of controls to its smart rings.
“Doublepoint’s tech helps devices understand small hand movements, so interactions feel faster and more natural across different interfaces,” Oura said in a press release. “When layered on top of Oura’s continuous sensing and insights, it enables the creation of new kinds of quiet, helpful features that work in the background and make everyday life a little easier.”
The company said it sees the next phase of wearable AI driven by a mix of voice and gesture controls, and that bringing Doublepoint on board will help accelerate its plans to create more ambient AI experiences.
The acquisition comes after a strong year for both Oura and the broader smart ring market. The company was last valued at about $11 billion in the fall. Oura has now sold 5.5 million rings, a sharp increase from the 2.5 million it reported in June 2024. It is also projecting sales to top $1.5 billion in 2026.
The smart ring market overall recorded a nearly 51% increase in shipments in 2025, according to market research firm IDC, with Oura leading the category, as previously reported by Bloomberg.
Oura said the acquisition adds a Helsinki-based team of AI architects and builders from Doublepoint, including all four of its founders, and noted that they will play a central role in designing and delivering the AI experiences that will shape the company’s future.
“As we continue to build the next era of Oura, strategic acquisitions play a key role in accelerating our growth and expanding what our devices and platform can do,” Oura CEO Tom Hale said in the press release. “Welcoming the Doublepoint team into Oura strengthens our bench with world-class talent, reinforces our long-term commitment to growing in Finland, and helps us move even faster to deliver intuitive, human-first experiences for our members across devices, services, and environments.”
This latest deal marks Oura’s fourth acquisition. The company had previously bought Bay Area health-tracking startup Sparta Science, metabolic health company Veri, and digital identity startup Proxy.
