Snap is expanding its $2,200 Specs smart glasses with new artificial intelligence features, entertainment options, and enterprise tools as the company tries to give the device a clearer purpose beyond being a high-end wearable.

The company introduced the updates at an event in Los Angeles, where CEO Evan Spiegel and other executives demonstrated new features designed to connect Specs with more everyday digital activities.

Snap adds AI and entertainment features

One of the biggest announcements was Specs Intelligence, an AI system Snap describes as an “anticipatory AI” experience. The company says the system can connect with user devices, including iPhones and Macs, and use connected apps and tools to understand goals, routines, and priorities.

Snap positioned Specs Intelligence as an AI-powered computing experience that works with the glasses but can also function through other devices. The company also added entertainment options through integrations with HBO Max and Spotify.

Enterprise plans and new connectivity options

Snap is also targeting businesses with Specs for Enterprise, a program designed to integrate the glasses into workplace workflows. The company announced partnerships with technology firms including Amazon, Salesforce, and Nvidia, with early use cases focused on areas such as IT support.

The company also introduced a separate connectivity package for users who want to use Specs away from Wi-Fi. The package includes a charging case with built-in cellular connectivity through Verizon, costing $10 per month for Verizon customers and $20 per month for others.

Additional experiences include an NBA and WNBA partnership that uses augmented reality features to help users practice basketball skills. Snap also plans to host a Specs pop-up event in Los Angeles before the glasses begin shipping later this fall.

Snap continues to present Specs as a wearable computer rather than simply a pair of smart glasses. The company’s challenge is convincing consumers that the device’s high price and new features provide enough value for everyday use.
