Threads’ new ‘Dear Algo’ AI feature lets you personalize your feed
Threads introduces ‘Dear Algo,’ a new AI-powered feature that allows users to directly shape and personalise their feed by giving feedback to the recommendation system.
Threads is rolling out a new AI-driven tool designed to give users more direct control over what appears in their feed, the Meta-owned social platform announced on Wednesday. Called “Dear Algo,” the feature allows users to temporarily fine-tune their feed by telling Threads what type of content they would like to see more or less of.
To activate the feature, users create a public post that begins with “Dear Algo,” followed by their request. For instance, someone interested in seeing more discussions around trending podcasts could write, “Dear Algo, show me more posts about podcasts.” Once the request is submitted, Threads adjusts the user’s feed accordingly for a period of three days.
Because Dear Algo operates on public posts, other users can see these personalisation requests. They can also repost the same request, which applies the adjustment to their own feed. While this shared approach may appeal to users who enjoy discovering new conversations and topics through community interaction, it could also discourage those who prefer to keep their content preferences private. Meta describes this design choice as a way to transform feed personalisation into a more social, collective experience rather than a purely individual one.
By enabling users to temporarily shape the content that appears in their feed, Threads introduces a capability not currently offered by competing platforms. This feature gives Threads a distinctive advantage in the ongoing competition among social networks.
“Threads is where you go to keep up with what’s happening right now,” the company stated in a blog post. “But sometimes, what matters to you changes in an instant, and you want your Threads feed to reflect that — whether it’s seeing more posts during a live NBA game or less about a TV show you haven’t caught up on yet.”
While Threads and other platforms, such as X and Bluesky, already offer a “Not Interested” option to help users refine their feeds, Dear Algbuilds on that concept by allowing more direct,d temporary input. The feature may also help make Threads feel more immediate and responsive, an area where X has traditionally been strong.
Dear Algo is currently available to users in the United States, New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Threads has indicated that the feature will be expanded to additional countries in the near future.
The introduction of Dear Algo comes shortly after market intelligence firm Similarweb reported that Threads has surpassed X in daily mobile usage. Although X continues to maintain a stronger presence online, the Threads mobile application on iOS and Android has seen steady growth in daily active users in recent months. According to the report, as of January 7, 2026, Threads recorded 141.5 million daily active users on mobile, compared with 125 million for X.
