Uber has reached an agreement to acquire the delivery business of Turkey-based Getir, once regarded as one of the standout success stories within the country’s startup scene, the company announced on Monday.

Under the terms of the deal, Uber will pay $335 million upfront to acquire Getir’s food delivery operation. In addition, the ride-hailing company will invest $100 million for a 15% stake in Getir’s grocery, retail, and water delivery business, and said it plans to complete the full acquisition of that division over the coming years.

Uber is purchasing the business from Getir’s largest shareholder, the Emirati sovereign wealth fund Mubadala. The investment firm had reportedly been looking to divest its stake in Getir as far back as last year.

The agreement follows several difficult years for Getir, which at its peak was valued at $12 billion before dramatically scaling back its operations. Founded in 2015, the company initially gained strong traction and spent heavily to expand across the United States and Europe, both organically and through acquisitions, particularly during the pandemic.

However, as pandemic restrictions eased, overall demand for food and grocery delivery softened. In response, Getir moved to stem losses in 2024 by shutting down operations and laying off thousands of employees across the U.S., the U.K., and Europe, refocusing its efforts on its domestic market.

Nearly a year ago, Getir became embroiled in a power struggle over a restructuring plan proposed by Mubadala. One of the company’s co-founders opposed the plan and ultimately filed a lawsuit alleging an “illegal coup,” though a Dutch court later dismissed the founder’s appeals.

According to PitchBook, Getir has raised $2.40 billion to date. Court documents filed by the company last year indicated that it valued its group assets at $374 million.

“This transaction reflects the strength of the business and the progress it has made, particularly over the last year,” said Waleed Al Mokarrab Al Muhairi, deputy group CEO of Mubadala, in a statement.

Uber said it plans to integrate the newly acquired unit with Trendyol Go, a food and grocery delivery service in Turkey that the company purchased for $700 million last May. Uber added that Getir’s food delivery business alone recorded gross bookings exceeding $1 billion in 2025, representing a 50% increase from the previous year.

The deal comes on the heels of a strong performance by Uber’s delivery segment in the fourth quarter, when the business reported revenue of $4.89 billion, up 30% year over year. The company noted that Europe, the Middle East, and Asia were the fastest-growing regions for its delivery operations in 2026.
