YouTube Is Testing a Feature to Fix Its Messy Home Feed

Finding videos that match your interests on YouTube can sometimes feel like a guessing game. To address this, the platform is testing a new feature called “Your Custom Feed.

The experiment aims to solve a common frustration: algorithm-driven recommendations that don’t always reflect what users actually want. For example, watching a few Disney videos could prompt YouTube to assume you’re a devoted fan, flooding your feed with similar content—even if that’s not your genuine interest.

Users participating in the test will see “Your Custom Feed” next to the standard “Home” button on the homepage. By clicking on it, they can input prompts that reflect their interests.

This lets users actively shape their feed rather than passively scroll through unrelated content. For instance, typing “cooking” into the custom feed encourages YouTube to prioritise more videos on that topic in the future.

While it’s still unclear how widely “Your Custom Feed” will roll out, the ability to customise the YouTube experience could be a game-changer, offering a more direct alternative to using “Not interested” or “Don’t recommend channel” buttons.

YouTube isn’t alone in testing personalised feeds. Threads recently explored an algorithm-configuration feature, and X is working on a tool that lets users tag its AI chatbot, Grok, to adjust their feeds.
