Apple Launches AI-Powered Systemwide Dictation Across Apps
Apple has unveiled a new systemwide dictation feature integrated into the keyboard, enabling voice typing across apps with automatic corrections for spelling, punctuation, and capitalisation powered by Apple Intelligence.
At WWDC 2026, Apple unveiled a new systemwide dictation feature powered by Apple Intelligence on iOS 27. Integrated directly into the keyboard, the tool can automatically correct spelling, punctuation, and capitalisation while working seamlessly across apps.
AI-based dictation services such as Wispr Flow, Willow, and Monologue have grown in popularity by offering features like removing filler words and formatting text based on context after transcription. Apple previously introduced restrictions affecting some of these third-party apps in iOS 26.4, requiring additional steps to activate keyboard-based dictation sessions.
With its newly built-in solution, Apple could gain an advantage by offering a smoother and more convenient experience directly within the operating system. However, it remains unclear whether iOS 27 will provide third-party developers with a simpler workflow for their own dictation tools.
The move follows a similar initiative from Google, which recently rolled out a Gemini-powered dictation experience through Gboard that functions across the system.
Apple’s latest addition is part of its broader push to integrate Apple Intelligence throughout its ecosystem, bringing AI-powered productivity features directly into everyday user experiences.
