Apple Photos App Introduces Advanced AI-Powered Editing Tools
Apple is enhancing its Photos app with new AI-powered editing features that make photo adjustments, object removal, image enhancement, and creative editing easier across Apple devices.
At WWDC 2026 on Monday, Apple unveiled several new AI-powered features for the Photos app, further expanding the capabilities of Apple Intelligence within its photo-editing tools.
One of the key additions is a new feature called “Reframe,” which uses AI to improve image composition. If a photo includes a distracting object, looks more balanced from a slightly different angle, or misses eye contact by a moment, the tool can help correct those issues.
Users can touch and drag a photo to adjust its perspective as if the camera had been positioned differently when the image was captured. Changes can be previewed in real time, while Apple’s generative AI fills in newly created areas around the edges of the image.
Apple says the feature only generates content where necessary to maintain consistency with the original scene while preserving the photo’s overall appearance.
Another new tool, “Extend,” allows users to expand an image to create more space around subjects or straighten a tilted horizon without cropping important details. Users can zoom out or adjust the crop area to reveal more of the scene.
The Photos app’s existing “Cleanup” feature is also receiving an upgrade. With improved generative AI capabilities, users can remove unwanted objects and distractions with more realistic results. The tool allows users to tap, brush, or circle elements they want removed.
The additions are part of Apple’s broader push to bring advanced AI-powered editing tools into its native apps, giving users more flexibility to enhance their photos while maintaining the look of the original image.
