When Apple introduced its major Liquid Glass design refresh at last year’s WWDC, the visual overhaul sparked mixed reactions among users. While some appreciated the modern, transparent aesthetic and glass-like appearance, others criticized the interface for making certain elements harder to read. During its WWDC 2026 keynote on Monday, Apple unveiled several refinements that could address concerns raised by critics of the design.

Apple said it is “updating the foundations of how Liquid Glass is built to ensure exceptional readability.” According to the company, this will be achieved by diffusing complex content that appears behind interface elements, creating greater depth and clearer separation between panels and the information they display.

Importantly, Apple emphasized that users will not be required to adopt a single visual style.

“Since everyone’s preference varies, we’re adding a new slider and settings to adjust Liquid Glass, so you can set it anywhere from ultra clear to fully tinted,” the company explained.

On both iOS and macOS, Apple is also refreshing its app icons to a more polished, consistent appearance. This move could help create a more unified Liquid Glass experience across the operating systems. Developers will also benefit from the update, as Apple confirmed that Liquid Glass customization options will be supported in third-party apps from launch.

The company appears to view the changes as a significant part of the platform’s evolution, highlighting improvements to Liquid Glass at the very beginning of its WWDC presentation.

“Like with all major design updates, there is a natural process where we take a bold leap forward, and then we continue to iterate,” Apple said during the event. “Our team really appreciates your feedback, and we considered it deeply as we refined the new design over the past year.”

The update reflects Apple’s continued effort to refine the interface based on user input while maintaining the visual identity introduced with the original Liquid Glass redesign.
