Gmail makes it easier to track upcoming package deliveries

Gmail is introducing a new “Purchases” tab that provides users with a quick snapshot of their upcoming package deliveries, the company announced on Thursday. This new section will compile all purchase-related emails — including past orders and shipping details — into a single, easy-to-access view.

Google explained that Gmail will continue to highlight deliveries arriving within the next 24 hours at the top of the inbox. The new tab, however, offers a more organized space where users can find all purchase and shipment information together.

This update expands on Gmail’s package-tracking feature first introduced in 2022, which allowed users to track deliveries directly from their inbox without having to visit carrier websites.

According to Google, the feature will be especially valuable during the holiday shopping season. A recent PwC 2025 holiday outlook report predicts that nearly 39% of total holiday gift spending will occur between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday. With the Purchases tab, users can keep track of multiple shipments more efficiently during this peak shopping period.

The new feature is rolling out today on both mobile and web for users with personal Google accounts worldwide.

In addition, Google announced an update to Gmail’s Promotions category. Soon, users will be able to sort promotional emails by “most relevant,” making it easier to keep up with offers and updates from brands they follow. Gmail will also start nudging users about upcoming deals and time-sensitive promotions.

This Promotions update will begin rolling out in the coming weeks to mobile users with personal Google accounts.
