Instacart expands global reach with Instaleap acquisition
Instacart acquires Instaleap to strengthen its enterprise platform and expand international operations in grocery and retail technology.
Instacart has acquired Colombia-based grocery technology company Instaleap, the company announced on Tuesday, marking a step toward expanding its presence beyond North America. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Since 2019, Instaleap has been a fulfilment solutions platform that helps retailers optimise, manage, and scale their online grocery operations. The company serves clients in nearly 30 countries across Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East, giving it a strong international footprint in digital retail infrastructure.
While Instacart is best known for grocery delivery, it has expanded in recent years by investing in retail technology and fulfilment solutions. Its enterprise commerce platform, Storefront Pro, currently powers e-commerce operations for more than 380 grocery retailers, including Aldi, Costco, Publix, and Sprouts Farmers Market. At the same time, its Carrot Ads platform supports more than 310 retailers in developing and expanding their online and in-store advertising businesses.
Since Instacart’s delivery operations are currently limited to North America, this acquisition enables the company to expand internationally without building or deploying its own delivery infrastructure in those regions. With Instaleap’s global network and expertise, Instacart can expand its enterprise technology solutions to more retailers worldwide.
Instaleap will initially continue operating as a wholly owned subsidiary of Instacart. Over time, Instacart plans to add more elements of its enterprise technology stack to Instaleap’s partner network, strengthening its global offering.
“We see a meaningful opportunity to expand internationally through an enterprise-led strategy that empowers retailers across the globe to meet the evolving omnichannel needs of their customers,” said Ryan Hamburger, chief commercial officer at Instacart, in a statement. “With the addition of Instaleap’s technology, international expertise, and deep retail relationships, we can accelerate our international expansion and better serve retailers and consumers around the world.”
“We’ve built our platform with a deep focus on the unique needs of grocery retailers across diverse international markets,” said Antonio dos Santos Nunes, co-founder and CEO of Instaleap, in a press release. “Joining Instacart enables us to scale our impact with the support of a trusted partner that shares our commitment to retailer success.”
