Lucid recalls 4,000+ Gravity SUVs over faulty seat belt welds
Lucid Motors recalls over 4,000 Gravity SUVs due to improperly welded seat belts, raising safety concerns and prompting corrective action.
Electric vehicle manufacturer Lucid Motors has issued a recall affecting more than 4,000 of its Gravity SUVs after identifying a defect related to seat belt components. The company has made progress on earlier hardware and software issues with the Gravity SUV, but this latest issue shows that challenges remain. According to information submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the defect was discovered during unrelated safety testing conducted in January.
The company found that certain anchor points for the second-row seat belts were not properly welded. This flaw could increase the risk that seat belts may fail to secure passengers effectively in a crash.
Lucid stated that the issue originated from a change in the manufacturing process by its seat supplier, which was implemented without prior notice or approval. The supplier has since returned to the original design specifications provided by Lucid.
The recall applies only to Gravity SUVs manufactured before February 14, 2026. Vehicles produced after that date are not affected.
To address the problem, Lucid Motors will inspect all impacted vehicles. Depending on the condition of the welds, the company will either install an additional bracket or replace the entire seat assembly to ensure proper safety performance.
