Shipt has launched Ask Shipt, a new AI-powered shopping assistant that turns natural-language prompts into customised, ready-to-buy carts.

The same-day delivery platform, owned by Target, said customers can use Ask Shipt to build carts around specific occasions, meal plans or household needs. A shopper could request food for a 25-person tailgate, easy school lunches and snacks, or a weeknight meal for a family of five within a $35 budget.

Ask Shipt can build carts from photos and prompts

The assistant also supports image-based shopping. Users can upload a photo of a dish they found online or at a restaurant, and Ask Shipt will identify the ingredients and add them to a cart.

The launch puts Shipt alongside other delivery platforms, adding conversational AI to grocery shopping. Instacart introduced its Clementine assistant on the same day, while Uber Eats and DoorDash have also launched tools that convert natural-language requests into personalised shopping carts.

These assistants move beyond traditional product search by helping customers decide what to buy before checkout, combining planning, recommendations and cart creation inside the delivery app.

Target expands AI-powered shopping tools

Ask Shipt follows Target’s rollout of additional AI-powered digital shopping features, including photo search, customer review summaries, and personalised shopping experiences.

Ask Shipt is available now through the Shipt app and Shipt.com.
