Netflix has released the official trailer for The Altruists, an eight-episode drama examining the rise and collapse of cryptocurrency exchange FTX. The series premieres November 19, 2026, with Anthony Boyle portraying FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried and Julia Garner playing former Alameda Research executive Caroline Ellison.

The official trailer offers a first look at the dramatisation of one of cryptocurrency’s biggest financial scandals. The story follows Bankman-Fried and Ellison as their ambitions, personal relationship and involvement in FTX become entangled in the events that ultimately led to criminal convictions and prison sentences.

Co-showrunners Graham Moore and Jacqueline Hoyt lead the series, with James Ponsoldt directing the opening episode. According to Netflix’s official preview, the production explores the personal relationships and decisions behind the exchange’s collapse, going beyond the events covered in news reports.

Moore, known for The Imitation Game, said he was fascinated by the real stories of Bankman-Fried and Ellison, describing them as unusually compelling subjects for a scripted drama. He and Hoyt sought to explore the private moments and complicated motivations behind their public actions.

The Altruists also features Alex Lawther, Matt Rife, Karan Soni and Eugene Young in supporting roles. All eight episodes will be available on Netflix beginning November 19, bringing the FTX scandal to television through a dramatised account of the people at its centre.
