Developer Recreates Elizabeth Holmes’ Theranos Desk With Trial Evidence
An interactive Elizabeth Holmes desk simulator lets visitors explore Theranos trial documents through a 2016-era MacBook, iPhone and virtual Edison machine.
Engineer Bo Lau created an interactive website that recreates Elizabeth Holmes' Theranos-era desk, letting visitors explore more than 1,000 emails, text messages, presentations, and documents made public during her criminal trial.
Lau, who works at AI document-processing company Extend, introduced the project on X, showing a detailed digital workspace modelled on technology from 2016. Visitors can explore a simulated MacBook Air running OS X El Capitan and an iPhone featuring the familiar home button and slide-to-unlock interface.
The website lets users browse trial evidence directly through the recreated devices rather than searching through individual court documents. It also includes an interactive version of the Theranos Edison machine, the blood-testing device that the company claimed could perform extensive medical testing using a small blood sample.
Although the experience has a playful design, it offers an unusual way to examine evidence from one of Silicon Valley’s most prominent fraud cases. The documents and communications are drawn from publicly released trial exhibits, while the surrounding desktop environment is a digital recreation.
The project also promotes a watch party for Nathan Fielder’s upcoming documentary about Holmes, You Can See Everything. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on October 16, 2026.
Lau’s employer, Extend, develops software to process complex documents, including tools to extract, organise, and interpret information. The Theranos simulator creatively demonstrates how large collections of records can be presented in a more accessible format.
