Spotify is expanding audiobook access to more than 180 markets worldwide, extending the service across Europe, the Americas, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. The rollout begins Wednesday and will continue over the coming months, making audiobooks available to a much larger share of Spotify’s global user base.

Before the expansion, Spotify’s audiobook offering was concentrated mainly in English-speaking markets including the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, along with Germany.

Spotify broadens its audiobook catalogue

The company says more than 350,000 audiobook titles will be available across the new markets, and its catalogue now covers more than 120 languages. In Spain, for example, users will have access to more than 45,000 Spanish-language titles.

Spotify is working with more than 300 publishers worldwide, including Planeta and Mondadori, as it expands the number of titles available in local languages and regional markets.

Premium subscribers in eligible countries, including Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Poland, Chile, Norway and Peru, will receive 12 hours of audiobook listening. Spotify also offers an Audiobook+ standalone subscription with a 15-hour allowance, while users can purchase individual titles separately.

An Audiobook+ add-on for student plans is scheduled to launch in select regions in November. Spotify says the service has attracted more than 1 million subscribers since launching last year and is generating more than $100 million in annual recurring revenue.

Spotify adds more audiobook features

The company has continued adding tools around its audiobook business. Its Page Match feature lets users scan a page from a physical book and jump to the corresponding section in the audiobook, and Spotify says about 1 million people use the feature each month.

Spotify also says monthly audiobook listeners have grown 40% over the past year, while total listening hours increased 30%.

Other recent additions include Audiobook Charts to help users discover popular titles. This AI-powered tool helps authors create audiobooks using ElevenLabs models, and experiments with physical book sales in select markets, including the U.S. and U.K.
