Emad Dlala, one of the most senior executives at electric vehicle manufacturer Lucid Motors, has departed the company only a few months after being promoted to a broader leadership position.

Dlala’s departure marks the first major executive exit since Lucid appointed Silvio Napoli as chief executive officer in April. Napoli joined the EV maker after holding multiple leadership roles at elevator and escalator company Schindler Group and officially assumed the CEO position last week.

In a statement, Lucid confirmed Dlala’s departure and said the company is undergoing organisational changes to accelerate innovation and improve operational execution under Napoli’s leadership.

As part of the restructuring effort, Lucid said Vivek Attaluri, vice president of vehicle engineering, and Marc Solsona Palomar, vice president of software, will now report directly to the CEO.

“Emad Dlala has elected to leave the company to pursue other opportunities. We thank Emad for his many contributions over the years and wish him continued success in his future endeavours. Lucid remains focused on streamlining our organisation and processes to leverage the strength of our team fully and will communicate further actions soon,” the company said in a statement.

Dlala declined to comment on his departure.

Having spent more than a decade at Lucid Motors, Dlala was among the company’s longest-serving employees and executives. During the last five years, he held the roles of vice president and senior vice president overseeing Lucid’s powertrain division.

In November, he was promoted to oversee the company’s broader Engineering and Digital operations. The promotion coincided with Lucid’s separation from longtime chief engineer Eric Bach. Bach later filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against the company, although federal court records indicate that the case has since been paused pending arbitration.

Lucid has experienced significant change in recent months. The company reduced its workforce by approximately 12% in February and later concluded a year-long search for a new chief executive following the unexpected departure of Peter Rawlinson in early 2025.

Dlala’s exit arrives at a critical time for the automaker as it prepares to launch its first mass-market vehicle built on its midsize platform. The vehicle, known as the Cosmos, is expected to carry a starting price below $50,000 and represents Lucid’s strongest opportunity yet to reach a broader consumer audience with a more affordable electric vehicle.

The upcoming model is also central to Lucid’s partnership with ride-hailing company Uber. Lucid has agreed to work alongside autonomous vehicle developer Nuro to create robotaxi services, initially using the company’s Gravity SUV platform.

The self-driving version of the Gravity is expected to begin operating on public roads in San Francisco before the end of the year, making the success of Lucid’s next-generation vehicle strategy increasingly important as the company enters its next phase under new leadership.
